Rao says DLF Projects is scheduled to begin construction, “tentatively”, by March 2008; the project is expected to be completed by April 2010.
RITES is preparing the feasibility report, he says. “Details of diversion of utilities and affected trees are being identified at present.” The Metro in Gurgaon will be on elevated rail.
In the first phase, it is scheduled to run between Sikanderpur and Vishwakarma road, via the DLF cyber city up to the Gateway Tower. From there, it turns right and terminates at Mall of India. The link will have five stations.
The structural design, Rao says, is being created by SPA, and renowned architect Hafeez Contractor has been hired for the architectural design — to give an “aesthetic and pleasant structure”. The Metro here will have rubber-tiered coaches, which work without drivers. The third rail, located on the deck, will power the trains.
According to DLF administration the target customers are workers commuting from south/central Delhi and Shushant Lok to DLF Cibercity and Mall of India. As per estimates drawn so far, some 20,000 private vehicles and taxis will be reduced on this stretch after the Metro link comes up.
The DLF project is much smaller in scale compared to the Delhi Metro, Rao says. While Delhi Metro has a carrying capacity of 60,000-75,000 each way per hour, the DLF link will be a feeder system designed for a carrying capacity of 30,000 each way per hour. “This is chosen for the reason that ultimate demand on this route will be around much (30,000 persons each way per hour,” says Rao.
“The road is owned by the Haryana government, and we are waiting for their approval to start work after the in-principle approval,” he says. He expects the approval to come in a month’s time.
